Privacy policy
The Koditor app collects nothing about you: it has no account, no telemetry and no analytics, and your files never leave your Mac. This website keeps only its server’s log and the statistics made from it.
The app
Koditor works on your Mac, with or without a network. What you type, the files you open and how you use the app are not sent anywhere. Koditor checks a licence key on your Mac, without sending it anywhere.
Its only connection of its own is the check for updates. It asks koditor.app whether a newer version exists when you choose Check for Updates… in the Koditor menu, and by itself once a day if you allow it, which Koditor asks the second time you open it. Like any request on the internet, it carries your IP address; it also names Koditor’s version and the version of Sparkle, the component that checks. It carries nothing about you, your Mac or your files. A newer version you install is downloaded from koditor.app too; if you let Koditor install updates by itself, it downloads them in the background and installs them when you quit it. You can turn both off in Koditor’s settings.
A link you click in a Markdown preview opens in your browser, which then visits that site as it would for any link. When you open Koditor for the first time, macOS checks with Apple that it is notarized, as it does for every app downloaded from the internet; that is between your Mac and Apple.
This website
This website sets no cookies and loads nothing from other sites: its pages, fonts, images and scripts all come from koditor.app. Its scripts only animate the pages and open their menu; they send nothing anywhere.
Like most web servers, ours writes a line to its access log for each request: your IP address, the date and time, the address asked for, the page that linked to it, your browser’s name and version, and the answer’s status and size. Checks for updates and downloads are logged the same way. The log is deleted within 14 days. The site’s own program keeps a record of its errors, without visitors’ IP addresses, also for 14 days.
The server’s statistics programs summarize the log month by month, to count visits and downloads: how many requests came, for which pages and files, from which countries, browsers and linking pages, and the IP addresses that made the most of them. The summaries are kept for at most 12 months. The log and its summaries are used only for this, to keep the server safe and to find faults; they are never combined with other data and never shared.
The server is in Germany, rented from a hosting company, which keeps backups of it to restore it after a fault. Requests reach it through Cloudflare, which gives the site its secure connection, protects it from attacks and keeps copies of the downloads closer to you. Cloudflare handles the same details for these purposes, and may ask your browser to tell it when a connection to the site fails.
If you write to support@koditor.app, your message and your email address are used only to answer you. Mail to that address passes through Cloudflare’s email routing to the developer’s own mailbox. It is kept as long as the conversation needs it, and deleted when you ask.
